What is the best cheese to eat?

Say cheese!

Cheese is full of protein, calcium, zinc, vitamin A, and vitamin B12 BUT is often high in saturated fat and salt. This means eating too much could lead to high cholesterol and high blood pressure, increasing your risk of cardiovascular disease. So which cheeses contain the least amount of fats and calories?

From cheddar to Brie to halloumi to feta, there are lots of cheeses to choose from, but what cheese is the better option? The charts below are based on a 50g serving of each cheese.

The better options would be the light feta, light mozzarella, mozzarella, light halloumi and goats cheese. Although the halloumi and feta do contain high amounts of salt, so should be eaten in moderation.

Recipe Ideas For Cheese

Feta is great crumbled into a nice greek style salad, mozzarella is yummy when served with ripe, juicy tomatoes and balsamic vinegar, goats cheese is perfect with strawberries or grapes in a big mixed leaf salad with balsamic dressing. Make a “healthier” pizza with light mozzarella, just add some tomato sauce to a wholemeal wrap, whatever pizza toppings you prefer (steer clear of fatty meats!), top with light mozzarella and bake in the oven.
